Stephen is a seasoned C-suite communications and marketing strategist, thought leader and messaging expert with 35+ years of experience improving the communications effectiveness of executives and management teams responsible for the performance of Fortune 100 companies and other leading organizations across the U.S., U.K., Europe, Middle East and Asia. Expertise in assignments involving communications priorities and challenges that are complex, critical, sensitive, strategy-driven and risk-based.

EXPERIENCE SNAPSHOTS
PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS, LLC
Authored 600+ publications for 50+ teams serving 18 industries across all consulting operations. Served as one of only two or three external and independent members of PwC’s high-level executive communications teams. Contributed to PwC’s most strategic communications priorities, including: (1) changes to the firm’s strategic messaging platform, (2) strategy white papers for the U.S. board, (3) change management messaging designed to inspire cultural transformation across the organization, (4) executive scripts, talking points and other content supporting the firm’s Analyst Relations program, (5) high-level internal strategy papers defining the firm’s plans for growth, and (6) internal and external communications supporting PwC’s strategic M&A initiatives.
MARS
Provided extensive support to the Mars Chief Security Officer and his team over a five-year period. Newly recruited from the U.S. Secret Service, this leader set out to establish his function as a strategic partner to the business. Conceptualized, authored and led the design of a three-year security strategy, two internal annual reports for the team, three TED-Talk, multi-media presentations and additional critical messaging content.
PEPSICO
Supported two leaders, the CIO and Chief Security Officer, on two occasions. The first project involved crafting baseline vision, mission, principles and values statements for PepsiCo’s CIO. The next involved developing a high-gloss professionally printed internal 10-year annual report for the CSO. Conceived new framework for an online database of PepsiCo’s security policies dispersed throughout the global organization and led the team that authored this master document. The third project was for the CSO: designing a master online global security policy framework that integrated all policies impacting security, global and local, into a single, centralized authoritative source.
SYMANTEC
Authored three major market-facing white papers on critical information security issues driving cross-industry risk management, user policy, and internal best practices for enterprises of various sizes.
MULTIPLE U.S. FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES
Led and directed the communications support on assignment to many federal agencies, subdivisions and related entities such as the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Congress and the House of Representatives. Other clients included state governments and their agencies as well as the leaders and administrations of major U.S. cities such as Baltimore, Denver, Seattle, Los Angeles and Chicago.
CISCO
Worked as an independent expert supporting the CEO of Cisco’s $3 billion division, Advanced Services, while Cisco was driving a major business transformation of this division by shifting its business model from manufacturing to services. Working alone on this $500,000 contract over a six-month period, developed, designed and delivered a new, comprehensive, multi-deliverable key messaging strategy, platform and campaign for the entity and, cascading messaging for five of its divisions. Outputs included strategic communications blueprints (5 x 50+-page ea.) and dozens of units of supporting collateral (e.g., blogs, case studies, talking point briefs for senior leaders).
FEDEX
Led a communications team of 6 to 12 people over a decade supporting the FedEx Chief Security Officer. Authored the key messaging supporting 40+ deliverables. Led the team that carried these assignments through to full professional publication internally. Outputs included classified-level research and thought leadership on terrorism-related issues, crisis management response plans, security assessments, investigation reports and technical analysis evaluation for high-risk hubs and depots in countries throughout the world.
NBCUNIVERSAL
Led the communications team that wrote and published two major client reports. One was a strategic, high-level assessment of NBCU’s global security program, operations and capabilities – supported by 50+ recommendations categorized by 12 domains on how to improve NBCU’s posture in every operating theatre, from North America to Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The second report translated these recommendations into a comprehensive strategy blueprint that defined NBCU’s global security program in a fresh new light and identified the goals, milestones, dependencies and tactical actions required to manage their security risks worldwide.
BANK OF LONDON
Created the original identity and market positioning package for AERIUM, a vertically integrated pan-European investment and asset manager, with Bank of London as a major shareholder, focused on commercial real estate assets across the risk spectrum. In 2018, AERIUM was ranked as one of the top 100 real estate funds in Europe. In addition to naming this entity, also created a comprehensive communications platform (e.g., vision, mission and principles; value proposition; key messages defining differentiators and competitive advantages; company and portfolio descriptions; and the company’s core narrative as reflected on its website and baseline collateral).
